About Newmarket
This market town was made famous by King James the first, after he built a luxurious estate covering 1 acre. It later became a base for both King Charles (the first and second) as well as Queen Elizabeth the second, due to its proximity to horse training stables.
Newmarket is home to Newmarket racecourse, which hosts great events throughout the year, from The Rowley Mile and the July Course. There are also great family events such as Newmarket Nights, where bands and musicians entertain guests throughout the summer months.
Newmarket has a population of almost 20,000 people and is close to Cambridge, accessible via the A14 and by train. Bury St Edmunds is also accessible via the A14. London is a 2-hour drive or it takes approximately an hour and a half to reach King's Cross station by train.
The town has some great amenities nearby and is a 20-minute drive from Thetford Forest. It is under 2 hours from local seaside spots like Felixstowe, and Aldeburgh. Newmarket is a great location to be based in for travel around the East of England.
